WOW! WIG SIZES. I was really surprised to find so much and such different information about wig sizes. Remember, head size does not always match the overall size of a person! You need to measure!
Measuring wig size Although some suggest taking 3 measurements of your head (around, ear to ear over the top and front to back over the top) this does not seem to be any better than a single measurement, around the head, in my opinion. According to my research, if you take three measurements and you do not fall into one of the categories listed, then you use the largest number, which will almost always be the one around your head! So why do all three? Generally, you measure around you’re head along the hairline. This would be from the nape of your neck to the forehead going under the ears. Please use a soft tape measure for this step to avoid drawing blood (haha) and to get a good measurement. After performing this task your measurement should fall within one of the following 5 groups:
A. Petite 21" B. Petite/Average 21 ¼" C. Average 21 ½" D. Average/Large 22 ¼" Note that some expand this to 7 groups but for most of us we can use the 5 above. Note that some manufacturers may be a little different by about ¼ ".
Simplicity To simplify this even more, be aware that I found most (90% to 95%) would wear an average cap size. The caps do have adjustable tabs that allow adjusting the size 1". This would be in the range of about 21" to 22" for an average cap size. According to the list above that would be from petite to average/large. Next up So please do your measurement as best you can and you will be ready for the next step. So far you have your cap type selected and now your cap size.
